Have you had an animal that is sick? The news from the vet is devastating? Wondering how will I know when the time is right? This is going to be so hard, can I get through this? There is no way around the heartache of this situation.
You are worried about your animal although the animal will be worried about you. Making sure your animal is comfortable and loved is most important. Talk to your animal letting them know how you feel. Let the animal know how much you value this time with them. Spend that extra time with them.
Sometimes the animal passes naturally and other times we make the decision to help them. Either way will be emotionally, mentally and physically draining. Always keep in mind what is best for the animal while looking after you too.
Looking after you is important to the animals. The animals want you to continue loving and moving forward. The animals want their relationship with you to empower you not consume you. It is easy to say we all wish the animals would live longer with us. The animals do in our “hearts”. This is exactly what the animals are all about, opening our hearts to “love”, to giving love and receiving love. This is the precious gift the animals’ give us.
You could do a memorial whether plaque, picture, garden arrangement, supporting or getting involved in helping other animals. Possible when the time is right even giving another animal a loving and forever home.
Know that your animal would want you to be able to move forward, to continue giving and receiving love. Be gentle with yourself, remembering how special your animal felt because of this shared love.
Embrace the animals’ gift to you and share the animals’ gift to you with others!
