Don’t Forget the Animals

Warning Content May Be Disturbing to Some

Sending prayers for peace as the world watches the people of Ukraine going through horrible losses of life, homes and everything they built up individually or together as a community.  Each morning we hear of even more events that have left them with heartache and destruction throughout.

We don’t hear much about the animals that are also going through all of this.  Some animals have been lucky to have traveled with their family crossing borders.  Other animals were not so lucky and had to be left behind.  Imagine if you had to leave your animal knowing you may never see them again.  This decision would not have been taken lightly nor would it have been something that would have been chosen if there had been another option.  It is not only domestic animals needing help but also farm animals, zoo animals, sanctuaries, wild animals, etc.

The animals left behind that have survived the bombs, wander around with no food or water to be found.  They have injuries from explosions and walking the streets and buildings full of debris.  They are suffering from anxiety as every time a siren or blast goes off fear comes over them.

There have been animal rescue volunteers that have chosen to stay behind to help these animals.  Trying to find these animals and bring them to a safe shelter.  Tend to their injuries and give them a place to sleep, eat, drink and hopefully feel safe.  Unfortunately there are more animals needing help then they can handle.  The volunteers keep going everyday around the clock trying to help as many as possible.

Some of these volunteers have lost their lives helping the animals.  Shelters have been bombed.  Zoo animal volunteers were attacked.  When these human lives were lost it left some of the animals with no hope, no way to get out and no way to find food resulting in hundreds of animal deaths due to starvation.  Horrible loss of life for all that should never have been.

We want to say THANK YOU to all the volunteers that have been there for the animals.  No matter what was done it was something.  It was more than the animals had before they had you.  Your efforts are to be commended.  For all the people that have lost their animals through this, our hearts go out to you.

The animals that make it out of this, they will need compassion, patience, understanding and most of all love.  They will require help getting through the nightmares they have.  Through the anxiety they now live with.  If you get the opportunity to help even one of these animals in any way, please do.  The animals are always grateful and that gesture will go further than you could ever imagine not only for the animal but also within yourself.

This is Patron, his job is mine-sniffing.  He has uncovered hundreds of devices in Ukraine.  Congratulations Patron on the well-deserved medal you were awarded yesterday.  Our heart is warmed by the acknowledgment of your dedication to saving lives.
